Professor (School of Physical sciences)


After finishing Ph.D. in Computational Condensed Matter Physics from IIT Roorkee in 1996, I joined as CSIR-Research Associate in MNIT, Jaipur and also took part-time teaching there. With part time job, I could enjoy my initial years of raising two beautiful kids. From 2002-2005, worked as postdoc at UNL, Nebraska (USA) followed by Visiting Scientist at IFW, Dresden (Germany). In 2005, I joined LNMIIT, Jaipur and worked there until I moved to IIT Mandi in 2011 as Associate Professor (Joint Appointment). My main research interests are in electronic structure calculations using first principles approach and study of properties of magnetic nano-materials. Further, I widened my research interests to databases and big data technologies/distributed computing as per the need of the Institutes I served/serving. Being a native of Mandi town, I strive with passion and zeal to be the flag bearer for the growing IIT in my home town. I am passionate to serve the society, particularly through educational activities and technological intervention to uplift the hilly livelihood.

    On going Research Projects
    • Magnetic properties and structure transformation in binary Fe-Pd and ternary Fe-Pd-M (M-Ni, Ga) alloys: Experimental investigation and ab-initio study, Indo-Russian Collaboration, DST, GoI (2017-2019).
    • Ab initio search of magnetoelectric materials, funded by Nano-Mission division DST (2015-2018).
    • Eco-friendly utilization of hazardous Dry Pinee Needle for social benefits, Funded by DST.
    • Uplifting hilly livelihood through the eco-friendly utilization of Lantana weed, Funded by DST.
    Past Research Projects
    • Research project entitled "Advanced computational studies of dynamic phenomena in magnetic nano-materials" under "2008 India- European commission coordinated (joint) call for proposal in Computational Material Science program". Collaborating institutes with in India were: SN Bose Institute, Kolkata, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Indian Institute of Sciences Bangalore and IIT Mandi, Mandi. The Collaborating partners from Europe are: Univ of Exeter in UK, Univ of Southampton, UK, Univ of Ferrara, Italy and AMU, Poland. The starting date of the project is June 1, 2009. The project was for three years but extended till March, 2013.
    • Research project entitled "Computational engineering of nano materials" under Nano Mission scheme of Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.
    • The research project entitled "Structured Programming through e-Learning" under International Higher Education Programme of British Council. The partner institutes were IIT Mandi, IIT Madras and University of Southampton, UK.
    • The collaborative project "India-UK Advanced Technology Centre (IU-ATC)" is sanctioned to a consortium of Institutes in India and UK. IIT Mandi was one partner of the Indian consortium.
    • Project Entitled: "Vigyan Jyoti: A DST initiative for young girl students" We started this initiative at IIT Mandi campus and cunducted 15 days workshop. During this workshop we motivated young girls to pursue their career in the field of Science & Technology.
