I joined IIT Mandi as Associate Professor in 2011. After finishing Ph.D. in Physics from IIT Roorkee in 1996, I joined as CSIR-Research Associate and also took part-time teaching at MNIT Jaipur. With part time job, I could enjoy my initial yaers of raising two beautiful kids. From 2002-2005, I did postdoc at UNL, Nebraska and the association with UNL continues till date. I also worked as Visiting Scientist at IFW, Dresden, Germany. In 2005, I joined LNMIIT, Jaipur and worked there until moving to IIT Mandi. My main research interests are in nanomagnetism, First Principles band structure calculations, and properties of nanostructures and nanomaterials. I widened my interests to databases and distributed software applications as per the need of the Institutes I served/serving. I am a native of Mandi city and thus strive with passion and zeal to be the flag bearer for the growing IIT in my town. I am passionate to serve the society, particularly through educational activities.

Center for Innovative Technologies for Himalayan Region (CITHR)

CITHR is set up at IIT Mandi under the DST sanctioned project for doing the Scoping study to set up CSTRI Center at IIT Mandi. This is a scheme of DST to promote technology penetration in rural India. The Center has been established with the name of UHL center at IIT Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. At UHL center, the work is ongoing on all socio-technical projects sanctioned by DST.

Projects:

  • Center for innovative Technologies for Himalyan Region, funded by DST (2015-2017)
  • Eco friendly use of hazardous dry pine needles, funded by DST (2015-2018)
  • Vigyan Jyoti: Initiative for young girl students, Funded by DST
  • Uplifting hilly livelihood through the eco-friendly utilization of Lantana weed.

  • Vigyan Jyoti Workshop 9 To 23rd Sept, 2018 (A DST initiative for young girls): 15 Days workshop on Vigyan Joyti has been successfully completed at IIT Mandi.
